About 4 Paws for ability
4 Paws for Ability is a US 501c3 nonprofit that places service dogs with children and adults with disabilities. In 1998, Karen Shirk founded 4 Paws after she was turned down for a service dog because of the severity of her disability. After the agency’s rejection, Karen dreamt of a service dog agency that doesn’t reject applicants based on the severity of disability, reduces long waiting times, and helping people of any geographic location. The agency provides ten types of service dogs to varying severities of people with disabilities and they reached their 1000th service dog placement around 2016.
